Tambayan is a Filipino American arts collective dedicated to creating space for artists, cultural workers, and communities to gather, create, and build connections through contemporary art. Rooted in the Filipino concept of tambayan—a place to gather, share stories, exchange ideas, and form community which collectively creates opportunities for Filipino and Filipino American artists to be seen, heard, and represented within the broader contemporary art landscape.

Through exhibitions, installations, workshops, artist talks, community programs, and collaborative projects, Tambayan brings together artists working across painting, sculpture, photography, video, installation, performance, and other interdisciplinary practices. The collective explores themes of diaspora, migration, identity, memory, labor, family, culture, and belonging while creating dialogue between Filipino experiences in the Philippines and throughout the diaspora.

Tambayan Collective recognizes that Filipino American artists often navigate an in-between space—between cultures, histories, languages, generations, and places. Rather than viewing this position as a limitation, Tambayan embraces it as a space of possibility: a place where different histories and identities can overlap, collide, and transform.

Our mission is to cultivate a supportive and accessible artistic community where emerging and established artists can develop their practices, share resources, collaborate, and connect with audiences. By creating platforms for underrepresented voices, Tambayan Collective seeks to expand the visibility of Filipino American art and contribute to a more inclusive and culturally diverse contemporary art community.
